FitnessX Gym – Reduced Structure-Borne Noise in Urban Environment
Noise and Vibration Reduction at FitnessX Gym
Minimizing structure-borne noise is a key factor when designing gyms in mixed-use buildings.
Customer challenge
The FitnessX Gym is located in a modern urban environment surrounded by apartments, offices, and shops. Complaints had been received about audible structure-borne noise from treadmills placed directly on the concrete slab — noise that could be clearly heard in the apartments above.
Vibratec’s solution
To eliminate the problem, Vibratec proposed our well-tested and documented floor system VT-BAT — a floating floor solution that has been successfully used in many gym applications where a high insertion loss of structure-borne noise is required.
Products used
The floor consists of the elastic VT-BAT system, using discrete Regufoam pads from Regupol, selected according to static and dynamic loads and spaced for optimal performance and stability.
On top of the VT-BAT system, the gym floor was designed and installed with two layers of plywood and a mass concrete layer, topped with the client’s standard wooden flooring.
Result
The installation has been highly successful: noise complaints from residents have ceased, and vibration levels in the gym’s reception area have been significantly reduced, improving comfort for both staff and visitors.
Users also report a more comfortable and stable running experience on the treadmills — lowering the risk of strain or injury.
This project illustrates how Vibratec’s expertise in vibration and noise control can make a real difference in mixed-use buildings where comfort and coexistence are key.
